What Can You Do with Shed Antlers?
ANTLER DOG CHEWS
Perhaps our favorite use of shed antlers is to use them as dog chews. Shed Deer, Moose, and Elk antlers are a great way to give your dog extra nutrition and keep them entertained for hours! Since antlers come from Deer, Moose, and Elk, they each offer their own benefit and come in all shapes and sizes for your dog.
ANTLER DECORATIONS
Shed antlers can be used as vase fillers, centerpiece pedestals, cake stands, toilet paper holders, wine cork toppers, and more. You can also add them to bouquets, wreaths, or use them to embellish pumpkins. Let your creativity take over and see where it takes you.
ANTLER WALKING STICKS
We’ve seen both Elk and Deer antlers be used to make walking stick handles. Typically a part of the overall antler is cut, sanded, and molded into handle that will be placed at the top of the walking stick.
ANTLER KNIFE HANDLES
Similar to walking sticks, antlers can be cut, sanded, and molded into a handle that fits inside the palm of your hand. Once the antler is sanded to the right fit, a metal blade is then inserted into the antler to form a knife.
“RATTLING” ANTLERS
Another popular use of antlers, particularly deer antlers, is to use them in hunting applications. Often times during the breeding season, hunters will use a set of deer antlers to “rattle”. Rattling is essentially taking two shed antlers and knocking them together, loudly, for several seconds. The sound imitates two male deer (bucks) in the wild fighting (typically over a female or territory) and often causes nearby bucks to come check out what is going on. Rattling antlers can be an effective way to harvest a big buck. We also sell several matched sets or pairs of shed antlers that can be used for this purpose.
ANTLER JEWELRY (RINGS & NECKLACES)
Who needs a diamond jewelry when you can have antlers? Well, not everyone may agree that antler jewelry is a girl’s best friend but it is unique option. We’ve seen crafters hollow out portions of elk, deer, and moose and antlers to create mind blowing rings, necklaces, bracelets, and more.
ANTLER CURTAIN HOLDERS
Typically found in your rustic or log cabin type of homes, pieces of antlers can be used a curtain holder decor.
ANTLER TABLE LEGS
Great for the rustic environment. Moose, elk or deer antlers are a great way to make your own table by using the antler as part of the table’s leg.
ANTLER COAT HANGERS
Perhaps the most popular coat hangers are made from Elk and Deer antlers. Given that deer and elk have long, pointy tines, they make for an easy way for people to hang their coats or jackets. The hard part is trying to get these massive antlers attached to your wall!
ANTLER LAMPSTAND BASES
Great as table lamps for nightstands, side tables, and reading areas. Antlers provide extra illumination for different spaces in the home while also adding a certain natural element to the area’s decor and overall design. The rustic ambience that they create is very conducive for reading. Different types of animal antlers are used to make small table lamps, and even tall floor lamps. Elk and deer antlers are among the most common, as they are slender and easy to arrange and shape into lamp stands. Moose antler lamps are rare because of the unique shape of the antler. Just like typical lamps, shades for antler lamps are also available to shield the eyes from the glare of the light bulb.
ANTLER CHRISTMAS TREES
Yes, that’s right, CHRISTMAS TREES. Crafters can make full size Christmas trees from shed antlers. The most common Christmas trees are from Elk and Deer antlers. If you are going to attempt such a task, you better have ample supply of antlers as creating a full size Christmas trees from antlers is no small task. Who say’s you need to go out and cut down your Christmas tree this year?
